Woody Witt:
A Conversation
"A Conversation" is an excellent addition to Woody Witt's growing catalog of top-quality jazz releases. It features eight original compositions from the saxophonist with bandmates Ed Soph on drums and Fred Hamilton on both guitar and bass. While the standard sax trio (drum/bass/sax) is well represented, much of the album journeys into the rarely heard bass-less sax/guitar/drum trio sound. It's intriguing and modern. This is Witt's first release on the Houston-based Blue Bamboo Music label, run by guitarist Chris Cortez.

Matt Lemmler:
The Music of New Orleans
Pianist Matt Lemmler offers luscious goods on "The Music of New Orleans". As a pianist and leader he has everything needed to pull off an album like this. His touch is crisp and musical, his interplay with the drums exciting, and his attention to melody pervasive. This is important because with material this familiar, the personality of the artist is what makes it stand out. Boy does it ever. -- jazzhouston.com review

Thomas Helton:
Experimentations in Minimalism
"Experimentations In Minimalism" succeeds by unifying texture and melody into a single ambient collage. It could be a film score. It could be a modern classical work. Either way, it's a genuine sonic treat, one that I find myself playing over and over these days. -- jazzhouston.com review
