FINDING YOUR TRUE VOICE: The Dynamics of Singing and Learning to Listen
Learn a few brave and fun a cappella singing exercises designed to help you find a hidden voice inside of yourself, overcome fear issues around singing, give you a new perspective on making sound, and get back in touch with that original connection to your expressiveness.
Then we will “work” through tunes, discuss microphone technique, communicating with the band, making a song fresh and new every time it is sung, phrasing, dynamics, song form, things to listen for and think about in terms of creative and interesting soloing, (scat) and more.
Jazz vocalist and educator Suzi Stern has studied improvisational singing with Judy Niemak, Bobby McFerrin, Shiela Jordan, and horn players Paul Ostermayer, Rob Lockhart and Joe Henderson to name only a few of her favorite teachers and inspirations. She has been performing and recording for the past 30 years all over the U.S. and Europe, and is presently on Viewpoint Records and Aardvark Records.
Bob HENSCHEN is one of Houston's most respected musicians and teachers. He has played with many renown jazz artist as well as being the favorite accompanist for many accomplished jazz vocalist.
