Her natural singing style is warm, sensitive and structured for a delicious sound. Collectively as a singer, writer, arranger and producer, Carol Sanders is a very gifted entertainer. Born in the Church, the daughter of a minister, Carol began singing at the age of three. As a part of the Sunday services her talent expanded her to Musical Director of the Choir, and she went on to join an all girl Gospel Quartet, "The P. K.s", which is an acronym for "Preacher's Kids." The group opened on occasions for national artists, The Blackwood Brothers. Throughout the adolescent years, Carol pursued her musical studies doing Christmas musicals, talent expos and even played drums with the school band. On a trip with her father (Rev. Paul Carroll) to a Billy Graham Crusade, she had the opportunity to hear one of America's greatest singers, Mahalia Jackson. Carol said, "I had never heard any greater singer," and that singing style led to an interest in other female vocalists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Many of the great singers have come from the Church choir. Another member of the school band who had a large jazz collection exposed Carol to jazz artists like Gene Krupa, Dave Brubeck, Nancy Wilson, Lena Horne and now she had discovered a whole new world of music. Years later a chance meeting with Jazz Drummer, Irving Feldt and the "Straight No Chaser" band, which she also joined as a vocalist, led to an introduction in Bebop/Swing Jazz. The sounds of artists Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Tony Williams, Chet Baker and Art Blakey brewed an overwhelming passion for the music. Carol Sanders has become a very diverse entertainer doing vocal work in the recording studio, exciting audiences of Cruise Ships, Cultural Arts Concert Series (CACHH) and further, produced and hosted the only local Jazz T.V. program, "The S.N.C. Jazz Show," devoted to the preservation of Jazz and an enhanced appreciation of it as a national treasure. Carol's musical career has included performing with Jay Berg (formerly of the Charlie Parker band), Jimmy Ford (saxophonist with Maynard Ferguson), Lawrence Evans (of the Art Blakey Group), G.T. Hogan (Down Beat Magazine’s Jazz Man of the Year) and many other dynamic musicians. Her latest C.D. release "Good Friends" has been declared Grammy material and is considered a great piece of musical work. Carol's musical life has created a wonderful singing style that is unique and has gained her many loyal fans. With her "Straight No Chaser" ensemble she emanates a pure, strong voice, articulating a sexy, swinging demeanor that is a real pleasure to hear.
