Da Camera of Houston, Waste Management and Whole Foods Market present
Earth Day Jazz in the Park
featuring the University of Houston Jazz Orchestra with special guest saxophonist Bill Evans;
and student jazz ensembles from around the Bayou City

Throughout his 20-year career as a solo artist, saxophonist Bill Evans has earned multiple Grammy Award nominations and explored a variety of musical settings that go well beyond the confines of traditional jazz, including hip-hop, fusion, reggae, Brazilian and slamming funk. In the 1980's, Evans spent four years in legendary trumpeter Miles Davis's band.

Performances by student jazz ensembles from around the Bayou City, including City Jazz Kidz and the HSPVA and Westbury High School jazz combos.

The evening culminates in a performance by the University of Houston Jazz Orchestra with special guest saxophonist Bill Evans.

**UPDATE**

Mr. Evans is currently stuck in Berlin and, along with millions of others, is at the mercy of an Icelandic volcano that has paralyzed Europe.

Filling in on the saxophone features will be local heavies: Warren Sneed, Woody Witt, and David Caceres

Miller Outdoor Theatre
Houston's one hill. It stands mightly on the edge of downtown, home to one rather lovely outdoor theatre. It's true, sitting outdoors on a balmy summer's evening is something most Houstonians would rather not do. However if the music is right, it's worth the bugs.

Houston's Miller Theatre has been serving up a variety of entertainment for decades. Hopefully it, unlike the rest of the town, will remain a fixture. Hopefully it will not assigned a corporate moniker. And hopefully, Houstonians will continue to brave the bugs in the name of quality live entertainment.
