Please come out and help support one of our own, Mike Nase. Great friend and one of the most amazing musicians I have ever had the pleasure of playing alongside. I was able to study and learn from him everynight we played together.
I love you Mike!!! Get better soon!!
Your friend and student,
Matt Lemmler

Thank you jazz Houston!!!
Brennen Nase
What a great, "good feel" afternoon! And the best part of it - Mike looked so great and was in such good spirits. He seems well on the way to complete recovery.
Thanks to all who put this together. I know it required a *lot* of work. I'm sure we all hope it kicked-butt dollar-wise.
Best to you, Mike - I look forward to your debut back on the scene!
Bob
Brennen:
It was so great seeing Shannon after many years. She gave me Brandon's phone no. I'm going to look him up when I'm in Denton this summer.
B.
Agreed, Doc. Mike looked great! He told me some days are better than others, but I have no doubt he will be back at full strength.
It was great to see so many friends come together for this event. I was honored to be a part of it.
Love you too, Brennen. As usual, you sounded great!
Great event! I brought my clan out to listen to Houston's best and am so glad they got to see so much talent playing great and taking care of their own. You made me proud Houston Musicians. Kudos to all who worked behind the scenes to make everything come together and run smoothly!
My son's favorite was Kelly Dean's group and my daughter's was the Wheeler/York duo. I had many favorite moments. Bobby Lyle's performance was one, for sure. John Calderon's manicurist being asked to the stage was another;)
I agree with Joe...Mike, you looked great and I expect you back out playing ASAP.
Thank you to everyone that performed, volunteered, attended and donated. We went well and beyond our goal financially and as soon as we have the numbers crunched completely we'll announce the big round number. :) We love you, Mike Nase!
The amount of support was truly moving.
I was so thrilled to be a part of that event! I really enjoyed seeing all the cats! I have to agree with Doc, it was inspiring to see Mike in such good health, all things considered. He had a really firm handshake!!
I really love the times that this COMMUNITY comes together. In the midst of all the DIVERSITY of talent, there is a UNITY that is undeniable. I made some new friends that night too!
Kudos to Andrew F. He worked his butt off all day, with other volunteers, to get the stage ready.
Tianna was awesome!!!!
JC
I also wish to acknowledge the outstanding work done by Tianna Hall, Bob Henschen, Diane Landry, Sharon Montgomery, Aric Nitzberg(along with the entire sound and stage crew)and Matt Lemmler as well as the volunteers who worked the concessions and door and of course, all the musicians who performed(please forgive if I have left anyone out). The staging of this event was truly world class. To say that it was the jazz event of the year would be an understatement!
I was a bit peeved that I had to leave early for a gig. It was great to see everybody together (especially the piano players - piano players never get to play on the same gig, whereas bass players are a dime a dozen - just joking). How about an annual "jazzfest" type of event? Why do we have to let others organize one when there is so much ability among our own ranks?
A fantastic idea, Ken. Let's talk about this.
I'm SO sorry that I had to miss this fabulous event, but hearing about it from you guys is ALMOST as good as having been there!
Thanks guys. Everyone worked really hard for months on this event. I am so proud of the committee and the volunteers. Whew! What an undertaking!
As for the annual jazz feet event, oddly enough there was talk of it amongst us earlier today because of the success of yesterday's event. We definitely need a breather, though! Ha!
Kay hieronymus was a huge help as well as aric nitzberg & andrew Fortson in pulling this all together. What a great team!
Thank you to everyone that performed, volunteered, attended and donated. We went well and beyond our goal financially and as soon as we have the numbers crunched completely we'll announce the big round number. :)
Ms. T,
Just so you know, I am sorry I couldn't make it but I sent my check today for Mike in care of the MBS. It sounds like it was a blast.
great! thanks al!
people are still making donations via paypal and we'll keep the account with them open for another week. After that, you can send your checks to the Musician's Benevolent Society or directly to Mike. :)
interesting...I had written a long posting about possibly making this an annual event for a local charity or for a rainy day fund for musicians, etc...and erased it since I have no idea (well some since I do this for a living;) if all those that put such hard work and personal time into pulling this one off would endeavor to do it again now that they've done it:D
I'm glad, Tianna, that it's at least being considered.
I don't think Mike or anyone could hope for finer friends than the talented, resourceful heads who put this benefit together.
Performers were greeted with a cooler full of drinks, a helping hand with gear and very accomodating sound personnel.
My heart is full o' love for you guys. You have succeeded in making the world a better place not just for Mike, but for all of us who are equally vulnerable to hardship. I feel as though I'll not be alone, not as long as I am blessed to be part of our community.
With all my heart, thank you.
I really enjoyed the music, and am glad that I was able to contribute - even if in a relatively small way - to help Mike. I don't know him personally, though I have heard him play, but he is truly blessed to have so many work so hard to help him out.
I had the opposite problem as Ken, in that I was already ON a gig and had to come late, missing pretty much everything. But I did get to see a bunch of good friends, some of whom I don't see very often, and most of all, was happy to see Mike himself. It was a treat to see how moved he was by the whole thing. And he told me he had been there all day and had heard every group and was amazed at the quality of the music he heard. He also told me that although the feeling wasn't completely back in his fingers, the dexterity is returning and he's optimistic regarding recovery. Whew.. thank goodness. I don't want to think about not getting to hear him or play with him again. Hey, were any of the sets recorded or videoed?
most of it was recorded, dennis... don't know how it turned out yet, but details are on the way. we'll let everyone know if it works out to have a highlight cd.
mike, it was great to see you out in the audience with your kids! i hardly recognized them! i remember your daughter sitting in and singing a jobim tune a few years ago at the daily grind jam. im glad that ya'll had a good time.
It was an honor to be asked to be a part of such a special event for a friend I have know since I was 16 years old. The event was well planned out and executed. The format of 25-minute sets was wonderfu. Most of us that performed Sunday have been in jazz festivals that could not hold a candle to this event and how it flowed. To the board members, I hope your "good works" Sunday earned you a special place in Heaven. Sometimes the best sermons are not heard, but rather seen reflecting off of each of us, in this case, each of you. God bless and keep each of you for helping a great friend and musician.
Sincerely,
Bill Murry
that was very sweet, bill.
