Auditions for a new jazz/baroque vocal octet.

No kidding. A vocal octet with instrumental quartet. Music will be jazz, baroque and other including original compositions.

We are looking for eight exceptional singers for an SSAATTBB group. You must read music. Education and background in both classical and jazz preferred.

Though musicianship is the most important quality we seek, we will be especially interested in bona fide basses with low Cs and 'the real thing' sopranos with comfortable high Cs. You must also be able to control your vibrato, which means being able to turn it off for tight harmonies.

Paul English and Horace Alexander Young III, musical directors.

Auditions will be held in Houston only Saturday March 20. Please spread the word to other singers, your students, your teachers and your friends. We want the very best we can find. We will also need 8 alternates to sub for rehearsals and gigs - total of 16 singers.

Age doesn't matter. Commitment to excellence does.

Cindy! Me, too! You would rock! Maybe you would consent to come in and be a featured soloist?

    We miss you in H-town...

I would be honored, Paul. Y'all get to do all the hard work, and I get to breeze in and float on the top of everything. Sounds perfect! :)

Paul, have you heard Perpetuum Jazzile from Slovenia? They are one of my favorite vocal groups. Usually a'capella but sometimes with trio.
