A big thank you to those who have come out and continue to support the transition of ownership @ 1718 Houston Ave. Although Catherine Duwez is very familiar with running excellent restaraunts and creating beautifully delicious food, she has said to me she is new to having live music in her house and this thing called a jazz jam.
When I first met Catherine she asked me in her charming Belgian accent "what is this thing...jazz jam?" ...and thankfully with the good foundation in business my father gave me I spoke of numbers, profits, and very briefly about the great quality of musicianship...but really in the back of my mind I wanted to talk about the important stuff....the well honed artistry, the music, the mentorship between the older experienced musicians and the new students, the people, the great fellowship and friendships that blossom out of people who would have never met had it not been for a common shared love of this great American artform called jazz.
Last week when the students sitting in broke into a joyful version of "Someday my Prince Will Come" I saw a smile came across Ms. Duwez's face, her eyes closed and she twirled a little dance back from waiting on a table to the bar.
I think she gets it now.... :)
Tonight's house band features pianist Art Fristoe, Brennen Nase playing bass, and drummer Jordan Almes. Starting at 10pm a $10 jazz buffet will be served til closing time.
Can't wait to see you at the jam
