An accomplished and experienced saxophonist, Paul Peacock is one of the exciting new faces on the jazz scene in Texas. He has a voice all his own with the influences of past masters such as Joe Henderson, John Coltrane, and Sonny Rollins as well as contemporary influences from Michael Brecker, David Liebman, and Chris Potter. His music is both fiery and subtle, engaging the listener in a variety of texture.
His performing career spans over 15 years as both a leader and sideman. He has shared the bandstand with many of the most recognizable names in jazz such as Louis Belson, Ernie Watts, Jim Snidero, Phil Wilson, Woody Witt, Dennis Dotson, and Tony Campise. As a recording artist, Paul is comfortable and efficient in the studio. He has recorded in a variety of styles including R&B, gospel, jazz, Latin, and funk/fusion. His CD, co-written, released, and produced with pianist Mike Owen, has received much critical acclaim and radio airplay. He is fluent on all saxophones and has performed frequently outside the jazz idiom in Classical and chamber ensembles.
As a teacher, Paul has over 13 years experience teaching private saxophone and music lessons. He is also comfortable handling an ensemble as he demonstrated leading the Sam Houston State University Jazz Lab Band as a graduate teaching assistant from 2002 to 2003. Mr. Peacock has also conducted numerous master classes for schools, jazz ensembles and saxophone sections. He currently teaches the woodwind studio at Kingwood College and privately in the greater Houston area.
