Background

Wilkie Veronique Law, III “Trae Day” Trae born Wilkie V. Law, III on July 26, 1974, to the proud parents of Linda and Wilkie G. Law, Jr. was born into a very musical family. Both of his parents and his four siblings were musically inclined both vocally and instrumentally. At the early age of five, Trae began to develop an interest in music. His uncle Dr. W. C. Law, who was an accomplished Pianist and Composer, fostered his musical interests. Dr. Law guided Trae’s musical ambitions by focusing on independent learning and creativity to allow him to grow and develop his own distinct voice. Trae continued to show an interest as he got older and while attending Francis Scott Key Middle School he learned to play the trumpet, French horn, trombone and the baritone horn within two years. Trae continued to study music at Kashmere Senior High School, where he studied under the direction of Mr. William Portis. This is where Trae’s ability began to be revealed. By his senior year, he was named Drum Major of the Thunder Soul Marching Band. He was also 1st chair trumpet and keyboardist for the jazz and concert bands. Also during his senior year Trae played in a jazz group, “Nice & Slow” (the members were all former Kashmere Band members). After receiving many music scholarships Trae attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. There he studied under Dr. Jack Lamer (trumpet), Dr. Keith Weinke (trumpet/jazz), and Dr. James Polk (jazz piano). While at SWT, Trae participated in the Bobcat Marching Band and the SWT Jazz Band playing the trumpet and piano. Trae was invited to accompany the band on a European Tour with the SWT Strutters. They performed at the Carnival Festival in Nice and various venues throughout France and Switzerland. Also while in college, Trae and a group of his friends founded Hillside Entertainment, a promotions and production company. Hillside Entertainment was responsible for bringing such acts as the late DJ Screw, Hawk, Pokey, ESG, Lil Flip and HSE, and Lil O to central Texas. Hillside also hosted a number of events in San Marcos and Austin, TX for Gordo’s Bar and Grill, Club Millennium, The Draft Choice, Fat Tuesday’s (The Vibe), Plush, and Le Privilege. He worked as a consultant, producer, and featured artist on “THE HURRICANE” That Boy Los featuring CATAZ (B-Veal) & MISTA R.O.B. (Robert Walker, Jr.) with a special guest appearance by ESG of the Screwed Up Click. In December 1999 Trae earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Sociology. In the year 2000, Trae began his 3-year hiatus from music. His passion for music over came and now he is back again. In March of 2003, he began working with Cosmic Records/ VGC Productions, an independent label in San Marcos as a producer/promoter. Trae continues to write and compose music now in his hometown of Houston. Trae prides himself in having developed his own unique musical voice, which is a combination of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and rock with a southern twist. His focus is to become one of the premier producer/ songwriters from Texas and to promote Texas artist and music.
