Background

Yuki is young and gifted jazz singer whose style extends from classic jazz to contemporary jazz.

Born and raised in the small village of Kochi in Japan, where she began piano lessons at age 2, she came to New Orleans in 2002 where she continued her musical studies at Delgado Community College. It was here that she fell under the spell of jazz. After the relocation to Houston due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she continued her studies at Houston Community College.

While in New Orleans, she studied with Germaine Bazzle, Peter Cho, Jesse Boyd, Fred Sanders, Victor Atkins, and Rebecca Berry. She has performed with Charmaine Neville, Samirah Evans, and Bob French. She was also a featured vocalist in the school jazz band which performed at a several venues and events and Ginza Jazz which performed regularly in French Quarter. At the Loyola Jazz Ensemble Festival in 2005, she was awarded for Outstanding Musicianship when she performed with the big band and the small combo of Delgado College.

In Houston, she has performed with the New Orleans Jazz Foundation. She performs with Paul English, Ichi, Jermaine Williams, Alfred Roberts, Tony Dillon, and Brian Quezergue. At Houston Community College, she studies jazz with Steve Hale, Joe LoCascio, Aubrey Tucker, and Aric Nitzberg.
