Background

I'm a 35 year old drummer and multi-instrumentalist that plays mostly swing drums. I'm self taught, but have played over 2000 shows as a full time musician in the last 10 years, mostly singing lead and playing drums with my band The El Orbits. We have toured Midwest and West Coasts several times, released four full length CD's (Freedom Records) and played a Monday night residency (Satellite Lounge, the Continental Club) for the last 9 1/2 years. In 2007 I will be taking a one year hiatus from singing to get my voice worked on and rest it. I'll be available for rehearsals and gigs in and outside the Houston area on drums or electic bass, my two specialties besides vocals. Generally I play a 20" bass drum, 12" tom, 16" floor tom and a 14" wood snare. I use high quality cymbals and pride myself on being able to play QUIETLY. My background is mostly swing standards and rock and roll. I don't do a lot of reading drum charts, but can read and , if given drum charts prior to a show, will work out the drums parts and ditch the charts for the show (I play better not reading). I've been on many recordings and have drummed behind Chuck Berry, Roy Head, Andre Williams, Big Robert Smith, Barbara Mason, Archie Bell, Big Walter the Thunderbird and many others. I also am willing to rent my drums sets out. I have three vintage Ludwig kits including a Blue Sparkle cocktail kit from 1959 and one Kent jazz kit from the 50's. I have flexible hours and can play out of town. I also have a small sound system, a Suburban and a cargo trailer for traveling. Union member. No drugs. No cell phone.
