Background
To Ellen Rogers, entertainment is a passion. A sassy mix of songs filled with joy, strength, soul, and silliness. Songs ranging from the 1930s to today are the tools of the trade. Her areas of specialties are New Orleans Rhythm and Blues, 60s Southern Soul and Jazz. Her stage presencs can only be described as explosively fun, thus her nickname, The Firecracker.
Recently moved to Houston from New Orleans, Ellen has been fortunate to be cultivated by a mighty roster of New Orleans living legends. She considers herself a student of the Edwin Bocage School of Funk and Dance and a graduate of the Jive Masters Studies Program. She has studied with Eddie Bo since 1996. Other professors in this school of life include: Kermit Ruffins, Deacon John, Walter Wolfman Washington, Carl Marshall, and John Boutte, and Jon Cleary.
Ellen has had the pleasure of sharing the New Orleans stages of Margaritaville, Tipitinas, and Storyville with piano legend, Eddie Bo. She has appeared at Le Bon Temps Roule, Joes Cozy Corner and the House of Blues with Kermit Ruffins and the Barbeque Swingers. Ellen has also been featured at the World Famous venues, The Maple Leaf, Rubys Roadhouse and Mid City Lanes Rock n Bowl. Ellen has commanded stages in San Francisco, Oahu, New Orleans, Bay St. Louis and Biloxi.
Houston has become a second home to Ellen! "The people in Houston are some of the friendliest and kindest people I have ever met and the players are awesome!!!" Ellen has performed at Tommy's (thanks to Paul English and NOAHleans), Blanco's (thanks to Cad Welling), Louie's (thanks to Nick)Sullivan's and The Remington with Commercial Art, Brazosport College with Richared Birk and Jazz Sunday, Unity Church with Chuck Payne and Rainel Pino (thanks to Reverand Dian Williams) and Sambuca special thanks to Yvonne Washington and Big David Foreman.
