I am a guitarist, playing in the style of Jim Hall, Jimmy and Doug Raney, Kenny Burrell, Joe Pass and Django gypsy style. as well as Brazilian bossa novas. I just moved to Clear Lake area (27 May 2009) from New Orleans area. I lived in Houston years ago 72-73 when I was just starting to play jazz. I met the late Arnette Cobb when I moved to Houston and used to play at the White House jam sessions on Sundays where I had the privledge to play with Arnette. I also played with the late saxophonish IH Smalley, trumpter Karl Adam, drummer Paul Jamal an many others. I was friends with vocalist Rosana Vitro in the 80s and played some gigs with her in Houston and Texarkana. I lived in Dallas from 1976-78 and played with musicians Marcel Ivery, Red Garland,Robert Sanders, Vicho Vincecio, Joe Johnson, Jim Shannon and James Clay. I was a full time professional musician until 1986 when I began a dual career as a civil servant, though I continued to play jazz music wherever the opportunity arose.
In 1979-80 I lived in Copenhagen, Denmark where I played gigs with various Danish jazz musicians. I attended North State University in Denton in 81-83 and was a graduate student majoring in jazz education. I studied privately with guitarist Jack Peterson in 1976-77 and later at North Texas State in 80-81. From 1992-1996 I had a gypsy/swing style jazz group in Dallas named "Trio Blanc." We helped pioneer gypsy/swing style jazz playing in Dallas/Ft. Worth area, playing in coffee houses, bookstores like Borders/Barnes Noble and and also corporate gigs. In 1979-80 I spent time in Denmark where I played gigs with various Danish jazz musicians.
I lived in Little Rock Arkansas from 1996-2003 and played jazz gigs at the "Afterthought" jazz club. I often played with pianist Buck Powell and sax/flautist Barry McVinney. I had my own group "Swing 42" with Barry McVinney and played various jazz venues in Little Rock. In 2003-2006 I lived in Northwest England where I played various jazz gigs in Northwest England. In the last 5 years I have occasionally played with Tonk Edwards, my first guitar teacher who holds a gig in Texarkana at Fuad's restaurant. Tonk lived in Denver in the 70s-80s and played with everyone from Dizzy to Sarah Vaughn.
I currently work at NASA in the Clear Lake area and hope to play gigs in Houston area. Ironically I played in the NASA area in 1973 for 3 months at a club called the "Crossbow" with bassist Rex Bozarth and drummer Randy Bradford.
