About
A 1970 graduate of Rice University with a doctorate from the University of Texas, Ken Cluck covers all the basses - electric, acoustic and brass. He has mastered a variety of musical styles over the years, beginning in 1969 at Astroworld with the fabulous "Do Dah Daze" dixieland band. Ken honed his skills playing with Dick Shannon's "Astronuts", Kit Reid's "Texas Dixie Kings", Tiny Skaggs and the "Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Band", and Greg Harbar's "Gypsies". Ken was a vocal student of Michael Lawrence and studied acting with Marietta Marich. He has appeared on stage at the Alley Theater and the Theater Under The Stars' Shamrock Cabaret Theater. In 1983, Ken joined with Joe Wheeler and Paul Buskirk to form "Pizazz DixieJazz", Houston's premier Dixieland band. In 1990, "The Ken Cluck Jazz Group" emerged with a more sophisticated "conversational" nostalgic jazz swing sound, entertaining for the last 20 years at private parties and receptions in Houston's upscale neighborhoods, country clubs, and restaurants. Ken is married to Kim Chapman, a beautiful and talented vocalist. They also married their voices and formed the popular swing group "Spatz and Lace". Ken Cluck also leads the Holiday Brass Ensemble and the Polka Dots, two specialty groups that entertain at a variety of venues during Christmas and Octoberfest.
