Background
Jazz musician of the heart hip-hop in his soul. Montique Willis born in Virginia picked up piano at nine and soon after moved to Philly. Philly was where things fall into place. Learning along side of jazz and soul geniuses in sunday mourning worship services, a master class of dynamic proportions. Learning what the 2-5-1 is during "hallelujah" and a "thank ya lord". By 18 received a scholarship, without any reading skills, to University of the Arts. Went on to play along side McCoy Tyner and Gerald Vesley, Jimmy Bruno, and many other musicians in master classes and performances. Played in the Charles Fanbaroh Group and sat with Kenny Barron. Stopped in the soul fabulous Black Lilly spot where hip-hop met soul and jazz and he became a connoisseur. Learning to play behind poets and abstract vocalist. among the crowd was Jill Scott, The Roots, Vivian Green, Jaguar Wright, Musiq Soulchild, and this only at 19. By 20 Montique had a name in the city and decided to become a producer. He started the 12 Tribe Camp. The 12 Tribe camp houses great musicians and vocalist, artists. He's now done commercials for Vh1 and others and expanded his musicianship and artistry by learning the turntables, bass and guitar over the years. Sick of politics in the northeast area it was his nature to move on. He now resides in the Houston area at the ripe age of 24. This is where he feels most at home.
