About
A child of a Mexican-American mother and African-American father, Rodneys bi-cultural background set the tone for his career in music. A product of Houstons inner city neighborhoods, Rodney grew up in the barrios and ghettos that would enrich his consciousness. Living on the east side, he tasted all the spices of Salsa music, Tejano and life lessons told through Mariachi music. Attending school in the 5th ward, he was heavily influenced by the sweet sounds of Soul, intimacy of Jazz and hard hits of Hip Hop. From an early age music was all around, and his diverse influences only help broaden his music appreciation and creative palette.
Rodneys musical abilities seem to come in twos. He has achieved platinum success with both English and Spanish music projects, including The Temptations, Olga Tanon, Kumbia Kings, to name a few. His writing and production can be heard on Grammy nominated recordings, Golden Globe and Emmy award winning shows. The Shield, Thief, The Unit, Smallville, are a few shows that feature his works. The United States is not his only playground, Rodneys productions have charted in Japan, South America, and Europe. He graduated Berklee College of Music, Summa Cum Laude with two Bachelor of Music degrees; Contemporary Writing and Arranging, and Music Production and Engineering. In 2006 he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni at the AES Convention San Francisco. Rodney received several awards for his work including Production Scholar of the Year and Excellence in Contemporary Writing. From grade school to high school he studied both the violin and trumpet, performing in various city and regional symphonies, jazz ensembles and earning many awards for solo performances.
Principally a keyboardist, performing is high on his list of talents. With his own band and as a side musician, he has toured and performed in clubs to stadiums throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America. TV performances are no stranger to him, having performed on various shows here and abroad. He has shared the stage and studio with Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Sting, Ray Charles, Roger Daltry, Paulina Rubio, Corbin Bleu, Raven Symone and Narada Michael Walden, to name a few. One of Rodneys proudest moments was being invited to Cuba, and playing with Chucho Valdes and Irakere.
