Dean Alston Jr. is a powerful young trumpet player born and raised in Pittsburgh PA. After receiving his first trumpet lesson from his grandfather at age 8, he has never put it down. Dean's first private teacher was John "squirell" Mosley of the Roy Ayers band. He then went on to graduate from the Pittsburgh H.S. for the creative and performing arts in 1994. During his time in Pittsburgh Dean became a mainstay on the Pittsburgh jazz scene performing in various jazz clubs and festival's. After high school Dean received a scholarship to the University of New Orleans under Ellis Marsalis. There he studied with world renowned Preservation Hall Jazz Band frontman Wendell Brunious. Since then Mr. Alston went incognito after suffering with family problems but has re-emerged in Houston and never sounded better! Dean Has played with notable jazz musicians such as; Sean Jones, Reggie Watkins, Jimmy Ponder, Roger Humphries, Kenny Blake, Irvin Mayfeild, Jason Marsailis, Kipori Woods, Paul Thompson, James Johnson III, Howie Alexander, Dewayne Dolphin, James Moore, David Throckmorton, Clyde Adams II, and Poogie Bell to name a few. Mr. Alston's soulful style is accentuated with a warm mellow sound that will cover your spirt.
