About the CD: Guitarist Mark Towns explores the hot, cool, and romantic sides of Flamenco flavored Latin jazz on his debut release. With guest appearances by saxophonist Kirk Whalum and flute legend Hubert Laws, "Flamenco Jazz Latino" is powered by the hot Afro-Cuban percussion section of Douglas Guevara and Jorge Orta, both formerly with Colombian powerhouse salsa band Grupo Niche, and the fiery sensitivity of Cuban pianist Rainel Pino. Pop music critic Rick Mitchell (Houston Chronicle, Jazziz, Amazon.com) says, "Mark Towns has found a sound that is at once accessible and original, tasteful yet potent. 'Flamenco Jazz Latino' is one of those rare albums that works in all kinds of settings, from relaxing late night background music to cranked-up party jam. But when you're ready to sit down and really listen, the musicianship will pull you under its spell." Other quotes: "Mark Towns new CD has a quality that rivals the best. Both playing and recorded sound are first rate. It was a pleasure being a part of this elegant production." - Hubert Laws "Exciting, organic, melodic, inspired, authentic, AWESOME! I'm honored to be a part, more glad to own a copy! My current "CD of choice", "Flamenco Jazz Latino" will be accompanying me on my next few road trips!" - Kirk Whalum
