A New Chapter for Houston's Jazz Vocalist
The Houston Jazz scene is experiencing a bittersweet change as Cindy Scott, a pillar of the local jazz community, prepares for a significant shift in her musical journey. After gracing stages and warming the hearts of Houstonians with her deep and soulful renditions, Scott is now headed to a city renowned for its rich jazz heritage, New Orleans.
Cindy's Transition to The Big Easy
Houston's loss is certainly New Orleans' gain as Cindy Scott accepts an offer that charts a new course for her career. The talented vocalist shared her thoughts on the transition:
"I was awarded a Graduate Assistantship in Jazz Studies at University of New Orleans -- and here's the scary part -- I start January 2005!!
I'm driving down to New Orleans January 4. I'll rush around to find a place to live, drive back to Houston, gather some clothes, computer, music, staff paper, CDs, and return to Houston to start school January 17. Bill has resigned from his job at KBR effective December 24. He will finalize things here, and then join me in New Orleans as soon as possible with the rest of our stuff.
Although we will miss so much about Houston, especially our many friends in the music community, bike club, church, friends from work, and family, we are excited about our new life in New Orleans. I know I'll be swamped with school, but hopefully I'll get to gig in New Orleans between projects. Can't wait to get to hear all the great players there."
Reflections on Cindy's Contribution to Houston Jazz
As Cindy Scott bids farewell to the Houston landscape that has nurtured her musical talent, her impact on the community continues to resonate. Her soulful performances and dedication to the art form have left indelible marks on the city's cultural fabric. The Houston Jazz Community extends its heartfelt gratitude for her contributions and well-wishes as she embarks on this exhilarating new chapter.
Warm Farewells and Future Visits
Cindy's absence will undoubtedly be felt across Houston's vibrant music scenes. However, there is comfort in knowing that while she's away, the connection she has with her home city will endure. Fans and fellow musicians alike echo a collective sentiment: "Come back often though!!"
The Melodic Journey Continues
For Cindy Scott, the journey from Houston to New Orleans is more than just a relocation; it's a passage to further exploration of the jazz genre in a city synonymous with it. As she settles into her new surroundings, the integration of travel and the vibrant energy of New Orleans promises to offer fertile ground for her musical growth. Jazz lovers visiting the city may soon have the opportunity to experience her live performances in the birthplace of jazz. And while the settings for her shows may differ, the spirit of jazz continues to connect places, people, and their shared love for music.
